Suk: Serenade

"Note: In the Highlights Series, I’ll be sharing some performance videos that I really enjoy. My usual habit when listening to classical music is to look for recordings, but YouTube actually has a lot of wonderful performance videos. That’s why I started this series—to keep a record of some of the performances I love."
I first came to know this piece through the YouTuber violinijung and her daily vlogs as a violinist in the New York Philharmonic. She often used Suk's Serenade as the opening music in her videos.
As a classical music enthusiast, I was curious about the daily lives of professional orchestra members and very much admired their lifestyle. Because of this, I really enjoyed watching her videos and became a devoted fan. I usually watch each video at least three times, and some of them I even watch more than five times. This means I must have listened to Suk's Serenade dozens of times, and over time, I gradually fell in love with the piece.
When I was looking for recordings of this piece, I couldn’t really find one that suited my taste. So, in the end, I turned to some performance videos. The moment I heard the version played by Kent Nagano and the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, I was immediately captivated. Their interpretation sounded fresh and natural, with a perfect balance between folk character and classical elegance, making it truly pleasant to listen to.
